"The Lord gave me this message: 'I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.'” Jeremiah 1:4-5 (NLT)
Before we knew, we were known. Before we thought about a career, a career was already established. Each one of us has been created by God and called to walk in His purpose for our lives. Being young, you may say to yourself, "I really don't know who I am, how can I know my purpose." You may not know yourself very well, but God does. He knows you perfectly. He knows what you are capable of and what you aren't capable of. He created you and knows everything about you.
God has a specific calling on your life, and He has created you in such a way that you can only accomplish this calling with Him. Without God, you will fail miserably.
We can only get to know our true selves when we are in a relationship with the One who created our self. Jeremiah did not discover his calling and purpose on his own. God revealed it to him. If Jeremiah did not have a relationship with God, he would have had to depend on his own limited understanding, experience, and strength in order to discover who he was. Many people have tried to discover themselves apart from God, and they are usually left confused and hopeless. God does not want His children wandering in the dark about who we are and what we are called to do.
Spend time with your creator, and don't focus on yourself, but instead, focus on Him, and He will reveal your specific calling in His perfect timing. He knows us, created us, and has a place for us in His family and for His mission.
Lord Jesus, forgive me for trying to go through life without my creator and the One who knows me best. Help me resist the temptation to define myself and to surrender to your perfect plan for my life instead. I give you myself today so that Your will can be fulfilled in me and through me. Amen
