Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character. Think carefully about what is right, and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t know God at all." - 1 Corinthians 15:33-34. (NLT)
We often make poor decision because of the people we hang around. We get pressured into situations that make us uncomfortable and in those moments we give in or go with the flow. It can be hard to make a stand for your faith when you know you will be criticized for it. When you hang with the wrong crowd they eventually begin to rub off on you and if it looks like a duck, talks like a duck, it’s probably a duck.
We are often a product of who we hang out with. We all know the difference between right and wrong, but still we have a hard time making the right decisions all the time. If you are hanging with the wrong ducks it’s time to find a new pond and if you don’t have the option of finding new waters, it’s time to stop standing with the world and stand for God. If you stand for God in a dark place people will see the light and they will either stand with you or they will take flight and that life goes a little deeper than south.
Don’t let peer pressure get the best of you and control your life. Be yourself and most of all live a life that is pleasing to Christ. Take some time today to evaluate who your friends are. Ask God to help you grow closer to the ones who are helping you grow in your relationship with Him and ask Him to give you the strength to separate yourself from those who are more interested in the dark instead of the light.
Lord Jesus, forgive me when I have let what others think become more important than what you think. Help me to choose friends who are following after you and give me the strength to separate myself from those are following after the dark. Amen
