So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. Exodus 15:24-25 (NIV)
Everything that gets to us passes through God's hands, but that doesn't mean that God intends for bad things to happen to us. We live in a dying world and out of that bad, God's will can move into our lives. We can choose to rest in Him.
In every situation, there is an opportunity for us to decide which way we will respond to a circumstance. I can get bitter, or I can get better. I can get mad at God, or I can trust God. God's people were angry because they had no good water, but just because something doesn't look good doesn't mean that good can't come out of it. Do you trust God when people you thought were your friends go behind your back and tell lies about you? When you pray for things to get better, but they get worse, do you get bitter or get better?
There is always something to be thankful for even when you're looking at the situation that doesn't seem good. The Israelites missed the tree right beside the water, and God said throw it into the water. The water then became sweet. This week when it seems like everything is going wrong, look around, I'm sure there is something sweet God wants to add to the situation.
Father, help me trust you this day by being able to see the sweetest that you provide in every situation. Amen.
