But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. James 3:17 (NLT)
Almost everything I have ever been taught has been for the benefit of myself. Learning how to get ahead of the next guy or to self-promote and have driven ambition to get ahead of the competition. When the Gospel comes competitive and ambition-driven it fails. We aren't competing against other Christians. We are to love and serve others.
What does it mean to yield yourself to others? Let me challenge you with this today, give up something for someone else today. Let someone go in front of you in the lunch line, thank your teachers, and give up your after-school snack and prayer instead. We are giving up stuff and things that don't cost us anything. When is the last time you gave up something that cost you something? Give up your time, feelings, resources, and you desire to be admired and seen by the world. Put to death your desires and let God be in control of your life.
Lord, I surrender today, to yield to others. Amen.
(It is better to not pray the prayer if truth doesn't don't follow what you have prayed by form of obedience. Let your silence by your truth if you have to.)
