"So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world." 1 Peter 1:6-7 (NLT)
All of us are on the "other side" of something, and if that is true, you have made it to the "other side" of many trials. Many of you have endured life-threatening sickness, abuse, bullying, the backstabbing of a trusted friend, the death of a dearly loved one, a major car accident, or the divorce of your parents. If you are reading this, you are on the other side of something I mentioned above. Or you may be in the middle of a trial mentioned above or something else.
Whatever you have been through or are going through, there is a treasure in your trial. There is something you can learn, someway you can grow, and someone you can love better.
The greatest treasure we can obtain from the pain of our trials is learning of God's compassion, His presence and willingness to help, His never fading commitment to us, and our ability to trust in Him. Peter says that our faith in Jesus (trust and surrender) is the most valuable thing we possess. He calls it more worthy than any earthly treasure or accomplishment.
Nothing is more precious to God when we say with our words and actions, "I love and trust you for my protection, provision, and purpose." God delights in our trust in Him the same way we enjoy the confidence of a trusted friend placed on us.
As we trust Jesus and understand that learning to believe in Him more and more is the treasure in our trial, then we will experience His peace and grace to endure longer than we ever have before. And not just endure, but flourish and grow in ways we would never have if we quit and gave up instead.
What trial are you enduring? Keep enduring and trusting in Jesus, He is your treasure.
Lord Jesus, help me to see that growing in my trust in You is truly the treasure in my trial. Give me the ability to remember this truth and endure, so that my most precious faith will grow.
