“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.
“But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him... We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began." Luke 15:20-24 (NLT)
What have you done in days past or recently that has made you think God is mad at you? What have you done so that you now believe, instead of waiting on the front porch looking for you, God has gone inside and given up on you? Or, what terrible thing has been done to you, so that now you are upset with God? You have distanced yourself from Him, because of your anger and indifference. Because of this, maybe it has been a while since you last talked with God.
No matter what you have done, or thought, or no matter how much distance has been created between you and God, He hasn't moved one bit. Like the Father in the story above, God is on the porch, and his eyes are on the road, the road back to you. He is eagerly waiting for you to come back home. No matter where you have gone, your home has stayed in the same place, with the Father. He has remained constant, but you have become shaky. His posture toward you is grace and forgiveness, but you need to make a move.
Leave the lies the enemy is telling you. He may be speaking, saying that your heavenly Father is angry at you, or that God has done all these bad things to you. None of that is true. We live in a fallen world and live among fallen people. But God is not fallen; instead, He is faithful. And He is faithfully waiting for your return.
In this moment, will you decide to come back home into the arms of your heavenly Dad? He is at home, your home, on the porch eagerly waiting for you to come back to Him. Start back on the road today; He will see you. He will run to you. He will embrace you and celebrate your return back to Him.
Forgive me for believing the lies and distancing myself from You. I want to come back home, and home is with You. Thank you for your forgiveness and for welcoming back into Your loving embrace. Amen.
