Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NIV)
We put our faith in sports teams, our friends, our teachers, and in God. I have faith that Alabama will have a really good football team this year, but that doesn't mean I believe that they will win the national championship. There is no real guarantee so it makes it hard to believe.
I think we have faith that God will be good to us and loves us, but I don't know that we always believe that. Seeing isn't believing, believing is seeing. I think God will often applaud our faith, but questions our belief. We have faith but do we believe what we have faith in? It's easy when things are going good, but things changes and so does what we believe.
You get your first dog and your family is enjoying a wonderful vacation this summer. It's easy to believe when all is well. Then your grandma passes away, your dog gets hit by a car, and your parents get divorced. I'm not being harsh, I'm just being real because this kind of stuff happens and people are hurting all around us. At that point, someone comes to you and is looking for help. Can you help then? Do you know where to point them? Do you still believe? Our feelings can change, but that shouldn't change what we know. We believe because we know. Jesus is the way, truth, and the life.
Jesus help my unbelief. Amen.
