A Story of Pressing Back
"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." Romans 5:3-5 9 (NLT) My family has learned a great deal about overcoming trials and battling with the enemy while we grow closer to God. Ten years ago, we were hit with the news that would change our lives forever…. Your child has cancer... Through the grace and power of God, she was cured! Now my daughter does the competitive dance. We wanted to let her do a competitive dance solo this year celebrating that milestone and a tribute to what God has done in our lives. After much practice, time, and hard work, she came down with strep throat the night before; less than 12 hours before her performance. As we approached her performance time, we began to realize she was being attacked by the enemy. The enemy did not want her to glorify the Lord, to share what God done in our lives. We prayed over her, and she pushed through the sickness and took the stage and told her story! The first lesson we learned: The enemy will try to stop you from Glorifying God. We talked about it and prayed for the Lord to protect her for the next time. A month later it was time for her second solo performance. She took the stage and was doing BEAUTIFULLY— then, she landed wrong, twisted her ankle, and forgot where she was in the routine. She bolted off the stage very upset. Her instructor met her at the side of the stage. As parents, we wanted so badly to rush to her side to comfort her. But we didn’t, it was not for us to pick up the pieces for her. She had to do it on her own. And she did. She collected her thoughts, picked herself up and went back on stage to perform her story, share her testimony, and praising God for what He had done. We don’t know God’s plans, but we know he works very differently than the world does. The second lesson we learned: The enemy will continue to attack you when you are doing the excellent work of God. When you are called to do the Lord’s work the enemy will try to stop you. He is okay with you doing nothing. He is okay with you being too busy. He is okay with you being too distracted or scared to try again after failing. However, when you have the heart and desire to do His work and glorify Him, that is when the enemy begins to push back. When this happens, you have two options…you can give in to the pressure and quit, or you can persevere. When you preserve that creates endurance, and endurance develops strength, and strength develops hope, and hope is love, and love is GOD.
