"So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up." Galatians 6:9 (NLT)
Doing the right thing and not seeing the right results is tough, especially when we see many of our friends doing the wrong things and seemingly getting rewarded for them. Watching our friends live like nothing matters, all the while we are trying to live a life that honors Jesus. Often this seems unfair and can leave us feeling worn out. It can leave us feeling like living for Jesus isn't worth it or doesn't work. But living a life that works or is worth it, wasn't the reason we chose to accept Jesus in the first place. We chose Jesus, because He first chose us, and rescued us from a life of sin and death.
We didn't choose Jesus to make life work; We chose Him to be forgiven of our sins and to live in an abiding relationship with Him in this life and the next. We don't live in a relationship with Jesus so that everything goes okay. We live in a relationship with Him out of love and commitment. We live a life of trusting that Jesus loves us unconditionally and has the best for us, even when it seems like His best isn't so great. Putting our trust in Jesus like this is called faith.
Faith like described above isn't easy, but it is worth it. It's worth it because eventually, Jesus will reveal Himself as the one who knows best and is 100% for us and our good. And goodness to Jesus is His righteousness (His character) formed in us. His righteousness being formed in us sometimes requires us to go through some rough waters, and other times it requires us to keep holding on when it doesn't make sense, but in all cases, it produces a harvest of His blessing. It produces the life of Jesus in us and through us.
I don't know what hardship you are currently going through, but don't give up trusting Jesus. Don't be fooled and give into the lie that going with the crowd will work out better. It may appear like it for the short term, but in the long run, it never does. Remember, in due season, when the time is right, Jesus will show Himself to be faithful once again.
Lord Jesus, forgive me when I choose to take the easy way out in return for the results I think are better. Help me not to give up and hold on to You and trust in your best and not my own. Amen
