The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. -Psalm 23:1-3 (NIV)
When we were little and starting to learn how to walk someone would steer us away from danger so we didn't hurt ourselves. We would stumble, fall, and someone would help us up. There were those times when we were finally walking that we walk towards something we shouldn't, like the stairs or a hot stove and our guardian kept turning us around to so we wouldn't harm ourselves. We would become frustrated and begin to cry and throw a fit because we didn't get what we wanted.
If the people in our lives know how to keep us out of trouble when we are little then God does the same thing in our whole lives. There is one exception though, He is God and He knows what is best for us. We just think we know what is best.
Don't be so quick to get angry when you don't get your way this week. It could actually be God turning you away from something that could hurt you. My daughter doesn't know that the coffee table could bust her head open if she fell, but I do. You may not know what is ahead of you that could ruin your life, but God does. So He turns you in a new direction out of love because He would rather turn you to protect you than see you get hurt. Other times He will allow you to fall to teach you a lesson.
Father, you are my protector and I am asking you to lead me today. Amen.
